Done duty in local court, and once in County court. Traffic case disputes both times.

I got very lucky years ago, when I was really poor and just hangin on to a job, and was called to jury duty in a district court. It was an asbestosis case with 12 defendants, all big companies, each with 5 or more lawyers ! The judge made them form a committee of one each, then had them chose one to do the lawyering in court. The jury pool was at least 400 people and I was not chosen. Good thing, because the trial drug on for six months! I and my family could not have survived six months on the jury pay.

The only good thing was that it was in Galveston, so I took a few good photos there.

Last time I was there got all the way to sitting on the jury. Listened to the prosecution tell how they had to prove their case and was ready to hold them to that proof. Then heard the defense tell us how stupid, biased & racist we all were and honestly, was ready to send his client up the river. Then the two went up to the judge for a couple minutes and the next thing we knew... we were dismissed. Justice is an amazing thing to watch.

The pool started out as 70 in this case. The defendant plead guilty so all we had to do was the punishment phase... but even that was bad enough. In fact, they were able to introduce things there that wouldn't be allowed in the guilt phase. So we got to see "more".

Lucky me - I was juror #1 and the presiding juror. Got to fill out the form 27 times - 26 of which were identical. And then I managed to see a fatal auto-pedestrian wreck this morning. I'm fried.

Wow, Nathan. My sympathies to you for having to deal with the horrible visuals over the past several days. Unfortunately some things can't be unseen. Just remember, as much of a burden it is on you, you were just a "spectator" and not a victim of the crimes and wreck. Prayers are with EVERYONE involved all around, including you.

I was called to jury duty a couple years ago and it didn't end up pretty for either the plaintiff or defendant. It was a child custody case. Wife was illigal and wanted to take the child back to South America. The husband married her knowing she was illigal (she never got a green card but had an American baby) The jury pool was all so ticked off that they'd been called to help one person who was illigal and another that was a criminal they couldn't get enough people who could be unbiased and sent all 70 or so of us home.

I have been called several times to county and federal courts but was never chosen. I have a friend who sat on a child porn/sexual abuse trial and from what he has said it was very disturbing. If I ever have to serve I hope it doesn't have anything to do with child sexual abuse or child pornography.

76 years old and have never received a jury summons.
Should I feel slighted?

Wow. How'd you manage that?

I got to sit on a theft trial when I was 20 or so. Got me out of welding in the August sun for a few days, and I'm glad I got to have the experience.

Thank you, that is all.
