Im just worried that 200 pound 6'3" speed junky will be unhappy on a soft suspension dualsport 250cc. the las 250cc I rode was a two stroke rm dirt kicker that was awesome. fourstroke dual sport might be slow. :)

I wish they made a bigger one like a 450cc I have been looking at stuff like the dorsoduro svx drz hypermotard and alike.
all over the map now. just sold a fat cruiser and dont want that again, had rockets and cross bikes and hate every day that I dont have a bike to jump on. now with kids and all that not like in the old days where I could have a few bikes selecting the right one is even more important. :)

I'm 6'2" and weigh 212#. And it's awfully hard to give my impression on the KLX compared to modern day bikes since the last bike I rode a lot was a early 70s MX bike with two rear shocks, air cooled and a massive 3" of suspension travel.

I can give you a comparison to a early to mid 70s 250cc enduro bike though. My bike has about the same power but is delivered in a much flatter power band, has much better suspension but weighs close to 300lbs. Which can be good if most of your riding is on the tarmac with maybe 50% on dirt roads etc.

If you want a more aggressive bike with much more power and much better suspension, that comes with a price. The KTM 450EXC is a very capable DS bike that is more of a race bike than a DS bike. But break out the checkbook and the toolbox. It's about 10k and being the high strung bike it is, expect to rebuild at ~8000 miles and that includes the crank. $$$$

If weight doesn't matter, check the KRL 650 or the XR650L. The best compromise would be the WR250R. I seriously considered the WR, but it's expensive.

I brought home the KLX250s for $4832 OTD from Wild West Honda in Katy and am EXTREMELY pleased with it! And I'm an old racer!
