Typos are not my real problem, autocorrect, on the iPhone, not caught is a major problem.

My so called typos are honest misspellings or worse.

Took mine off almost right away (over 2 1/2 years ago)
Since I use my iPhone alot for work (I try to answer email inquiries from clients within 15 minutes), it gives the impression that I am diligently working behind at my desk, even when I am at the beach. :D

I've always left it on as a way of saying "I'm not currently at my computer, if you need more information that what I've responded you'll have to wait until I can do more"
