Stephanie,
I have no say on it either way as my son is looking for similar for a trip to Africa to help rebuild churches. Just noticed that you live in Bandera also. We lived there for the last eight years I was in the Air Force. Four years back and forth to Security Hill, four years to Randolph AFB. Still have my place there for sale if you know anyone interested in a mobile home close to the lake. Good luck with getting to take the workshop.

Thanks! I'm probably going to hold off until next year anyhow. I'm doing the Race for the Cure in a week an a half and whatever money we were going to put towards the workshop I went ahead and added it to my fundraiser. They are going to try to do a workshop again next year - I was afraid that this year was the only shot I was going to have but hopefully not!

I actually do know a young couple that moved to Bandera recently and have been renting. How many beds/baths is your home? Is it on any amount of land?

Save your money and sign up for Texas School next year. This will be my 5th year going and I'm excited. The stuff you learn there is valuable and you will learn from many people there. This is the only conference I attend.

Ok so after looking at your responses...Texas School is a whole lot more than the other conference you are looking at.

The cost is >$500 + lodging (only dinner meals are included). However, the conference is 4.5 days long

TEXAS SCHOOL OF PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Last year there were 36 classes (you only take one class), >1000 people attended, 39 states, & 4 countries. What you learn there, you will use for a lifetime. This is the reason I go every year. You learn from master photographers.

I took a look and that does look like a great conference. The class on natural light is particularly interesting.

Thanks for the link!

Doing and reading are two different things and everyone learns differently.

I second that motion! I am constantly reading books/blogs/websites about certain aspects of photography but it seems like my active recall of the info I read doesn't kick in until someone is showing me or talking to me about what it is I'm trying to accomplish. Then its on like Donkey Kong!

It's a great conference. Save your money and go next year. It's in Dallas. The learning is unbelievable. I owe my business to Texas School. I was just a hobbyist...now my business is part-time (only because I choose it to be).

I am totally in agreement with you. Everything that I have read on the web...just doesn't stick. I'm a visual person. Gotta learn in person.
