I myself, doing this as a hobby first, secondary income second... I don't pitch any purchase idea unless I known it's in budget. Then, it's discussed based on importance etc.
I think if it's that far beyond your means, and you aren't full tilt boogie into this... Just pass and attack it later. Heck maybe you won't even need it by then. At the same time, I think you could find just as great things in your price range, but i suppose thats just an assumption.
On the other hand, I'm a fan of quick easy money grabs to make some quick easy cash, like mini sessions and raffles.
I don't know who you would intend on asking for help from, but me personally I wouldn't ask any potential clients, of any scope. I fall under a fake it till you make it
