Another way to convince the other half to get new gear

I received a call from my parents in China this morning stating the maintenance people have broken into their apartment. They stole cash, jewelry, Nikon D700, 20-35, and an 80-200. They worked hard to get into their apt as theyre located on the 15th floor with their front door gated. They went through a window and got onto the balcony and through the AC unit while they were out around town.

So during this chat, my dad asked me what he should get, I told him, another D700 is all you needed and a 24-70 or 14-24 since they already have a 24-70. After I said that, he said he bought a D3s and the 17-35. Given the market with the higher end bodies, I'm surprised he was able to find a new D3s anywhere near 5200. The conversion from USD to RMB is 35k RMB just for the body. So, he likes to do video, so now he doesnt have to carry a camcorder and a camera, now he has a pro body with a wide zoom.

I think it's a good move, it'll be a nice 2nd body when I need it.

Sorry to read about the break in, but it sure seems like you Dad upgraded to a camera that will give him a lot of good use.
