Posing Question - 04-18-2011, 06:27 PM

Doing a shoot with a brother and sister for Mother's Day. The sister is the one organizing this ordeal and she is bringing her son who is 7 years old along for the pictures. The sister is 28 and the brother is 19.

Anyone have any pointers for not making it look like they are two parents with their child, or examples of similar type shoots?

Thanks

What you describe is one of the tough assignments. I do not have any examples, however..............

Try to have the sister always close to her son, maybe with her arms gently around him. I am thinking about the girl and son sitting on the floor or grass, and the brother sitting on a stool or kneeling on one knee behind them. I usually have people touching arms, hands. etc, but in this case only the mother and son.

The boy sitting on his mother's lap and the brother standing slightly behind. the mother and son once again "hugging" , and perhaps the brother folding his arms (as guys do). Be careful with this pose for the brother, because it can sometimes come across as too stern, so smiles would be appropriate for all, in my opinion.

Unfortunately if both the brother and sister are relating to her son it will come across as parents.

Hope this helps, good luck. Sorry I had nothing to show you.

Thanks so much, I didn't think about those at all.

and we are shooting at Arbor Hills in Plano, so I am hoping I can do some shoots of the sibling leaning on each side of a tree and the son in the middle somewhere.

Perhaps, but in my mind I am seeing a balanced shot... guy on one side, girl on the other, boy in middle; and I am thinking parents and kid. Just my opinion.

Maybe..... young man on one side, leaning with shoulder into tree, arms folded, foot crossed (hard to describe that, but I am sure you know what I mean), with the girl on the other side, back slightly to tree, and hand on son's shoulder?
the boy close to mother, and then maybe on opposite side of his mother. He will still be in contact with her with a slight space between brother and sister.

Not a lot of space between the brother and sister... don't wanna make it appear they dislike each other.

Yep.. a tough assignment , but take your time, and you will do fine.
