I was just debating getting rid of my new fancy computer for a Commadore 64. Heck anything I can do on this I can do on that, not to mention the standout I'd be in my field.

There is no point bad talking all film users.

Fell free to mock the one who owns a "pro" digital body, but constantly promotes film.

I mostly agree with you. Certainly from a technical standpoint I agree 100%. I know a very talented and successful motorsports photographer (ALMS series mostly) whose camera of choice is a Canon 40D and would still buy them if available new. He could certainly afford 1-series. He actually dislikes the images from 7D's.

The problem though is a problem of market perception. Will your customer understand why you are using a 3 or 4 year old camera?

Most customers aren't going to be be up on specific model numbers. Even if they judge you on your equipment, it's more likely to be based on how "professional" it looks than whether it's a couple years old or not. Most laymen would probably be more impressed by a D2x than a D7000, despite the latter being a more capable camera in many ways.

People will absolutely know that I am one strategy consultant who is it the top of his form, the best in class, when they see my new computer...

... it will set me apart from all others vying for their consulting dollars. Even though technology has moved on and the floppies are no longer made for it, I found a source of 8" floppies from Russia and I trim them down with a pair of scissors and I make my own holders out of manila folders.

I also have to write all my own statistical analysis software because none of the programs I use available in the market to run on CP/M (...how dare the SW vendors all go where the money is and support the intel-based computing markets!). And the 50-character wide screen can be a problem sometime, so I have to keep my variable names short, but that's what proves that I'm a real consultant and not some techno-whore who has to use the latest and greatest technology to get his work done.

I figure if I buy enough of these, and if I can convince a few of my consulting buddies to do the same, we can probably force SW companies to start producing applications in CP/M again. BTW, I have this great program that, when you hook this baby up to a dot matrix printer, will make this tall narrow picture of James Dean - - you just have to look at it from across the room before you can see what it really is...

...now where's the network connector on this thing...

I welcome comments on any picture I post... Thanks.
