Photo Synth for iPhone - Free App from Microsoft that is a Killer - 04-28-2011, 11:09 PM

I searched and did not find any mention on TPF of this new app that was just released last week by Microsoft for iPhone 4.0 - Photo Synth. It is available for FREE in the App store and is one of the most remarkable things I've ever seen done with an iPhone. You can literally take 360 degree panoramas with an iPhone and the results are amazing.

Here's a review that talks a bit about it.

Photosynth Review for iOS

If you have an iPhone 4 - three words for you:

Download This App

You won't be sorry you did. HIGHLY recommended.

And here's the official Microsoft announcement with a video showing Photo Synth and how it works:

It's a very cool app. Definitely a must-download since it's free. Best pano app in my opinion.

The way this app works is just fascinating.....and although its not perfect, it is really amazing.

If you have a iPhone 4.0 or a 3Gs, you really should download this killer free app.

You can get some idea of what the finished stitched panorama looks like here - its our backyard at high noon. Even with a windy day and harsh sun, the app did a decent job.

You can scroll the 270 degree scene by using your cursor and panning left to right....

No love for Android yet, but since it is Microsoft there is some hope.

I'm headed to Banff National Park next month and am really excited about using this app there as well.....for a landscape photographer, it is a chance to capture some grab and go panoramas without having to set up a tripod.

This is AWESOME. I downloaded it a week ago while at the Rangers game. A friend recommended it while there. Played with it all night... pretty cool, for sure!

I have this one on my iPad. A yard stick and a couple strong rubber bands make a cheap monopod. I wedge the yardstick between the drivers seat and the door arm rest. AKA adaptive technology.

I always thought a killer app for a tablet PC would be a field camera emulator.
