Where are all the people? Where are the new posts? Where has everyone gone? I know there was a heated discussion about the possibility of "undercutting", and then it seems that the site has died.

I'm around, my wife and I have been busy shredding 5 years worth of paper that we have collected. We just kept throwing things in bins, and after the bin was full, it went to the storage shed. It's amazing how much mail we never opened, mainly from CC companies trying to get us to sign up. Hardly anything of value in anything. We collected a ton of receipts from everywhere, and that's maily what we are shreding. And then comes the old B & W prints...
We have also shreded a few hundred floppy discs and probally that many in CD's.. most everything has been copied onto DVD and archived.

I am among the guilty absentee members. I used to have a ton of posts on here, but then grad school happened. Go figure. I'm trying to get my photography back up and running, though, so hopefully I'll make a half hour or so every day to get on and check up with all the 'ol CPF people.

And hence, I assume we have all gone to other forums where there is a little more action. I know I have. But I keep coming back here and looking.

As I've said in a different thread. The culture hasn't developed and people here are too scared to offer their opinions, or feelings. There is no bonding going on here and with the glut of forums, it's just not worth spending the time here.
There is one very strong feature of this forum and that is the links to the fabulous Pod casts, and I gotta thank Abel for these. I've hooked up to Jeff Curto's site and his intellegent issues on the art of photography.
My main home forum is the www.ourppa.com , and there are over 9000 pro photographers in that group. The quality of images, both art and professional are outstanding and many newbies learn a lot because nobody pulls the punches. They are nice, but they are honest and there is much expert advice in that forum.
Until this forum gets a little more gutsy, this thing ain't gonna fly.

It is possible to have a successful forum without having tough and rough critiques. It is very possible to give critiques in a constructive & professional manner...
I am partly to blame for the slowdown in activity... Having just got married and had a 2 week honeymoon and being swamped at work etc has left me a little short on time here on CPF. As an admin my responsibilities are to recruit members, generate content and keep members coming back. I have not done the best job at doing this over the past month or so but have made it my number one priority once again.
Trust me.. We are here to stay... We've had a slow down but I can assure you it will pick back up. :w00t:

I made that committment at the tender age of 24 and opened my first store front studio. If I could do that whithout ever getting "a real job" anybody can. Its just that you were all told throughout your life that "you can't make a living off of your art". I'm telling ya you can. But you have to believe in yourself, and that's what I'm not seeing in this forum.
Yet, there are thousands of members in the PPA who do, and they make that committment every day.

I think Timothy was just razzing you...
The PPA is great... I do agree.. but we are not targeting only professional photographers who shoot for a living. We are open to all photographers no matter what their level...
I know I keep referencing back to the Texas site and I am sure it's growing old but I can assure you that many that you may see here on CPF that are new to the hobby may one day become professionals and leave their full time jobs to pursue it. I for one have witnessed many on the Texas site do just that and it amazes me because I can remember when they first got their camera and had no clue how to use it and now they are shooting for a living and doing well at it.
The intent of this forum is to cater to anyone interested in photography... we will have a wide range of photographers on all levels which will be very beneficial to having the site grow as a community. I know I enjoy teaching those that are new to the hobby about some of the things that others have taught me along the way... passing the knowledge is a good thing..
I have plans for a newsletter to be sent out to our members which will contain updates, announcements, member photos and highlights. The newsletter serves 2 main purposes for the forum. #1 it keeps the current active members up to date on what's going on here on the forum and #2 it reminds those that haven't been active that we're still here! I hope I can get it completed within the next week or two. Keep an eye out!
