Which gets me to thinking. If they take a bunch of Barry Bond's home runs away during his Steroid years, could he at least have some of them back from pitchers who used steroids? Seems that would be fair ;)

With regards to Barry Bonds, personally, I think if Roger Marris had an asterik by his record for the sole reason of having a slightly longer season, Barry Bonds should have his record removed from the books, and should be banned from baseball, all pay, and the Hall of Fame. His record is obviously severly tarnished. I'm not saying that he should pay that prie soley because he took steroids, but because he commited another crime by lying about it (if that is found to be true, case is pending.) Let's look at the two previous record holders. Babe Ruth, first memeber of the 300, 400, 500, 600, and 700 home run club, did it in the "Dead Ball Era." Beer and staying out all night with women is not considered "performance enhancement." "Hammering" Hank Aaron broke Ruth's record under emence pressure and stress. Had multiple prices on his and his family's head. Stress in that amount is anything but enhancement. Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron set their respective records in honorable and legitamate methods, without use of any sort of enhancements. They plain and simple earned their records and their place in Cooperstown, with their records untarnished. Bonds has brought disgrace to baseball, and especially the all time home run record. If Bonds is allowed to continue playing, and elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, Pete Rose and "Shoeless" Joe Jackson should be elected first, and recieve a full apology from the commisoner of baseball (or the closest decendant.) Well, I would end by saying this is just my 2 cents, but I think I put in a bit mroe than that.

One thing to consider: A bunch of Ruth's Home Runs are now considered as Ground rule doubles.

Ok, well, it all depends on how you define a ground rule double and a home run. Ruth hit the ball 714 times over the outfield wall within fair terirory, which then and still now, is considered a home run, not a ground rule double.

Actually, no. They used to consider a ball that bounced over the fence as a home run, what is now a ground rule double. And he hit quite a few of those.

Yes, a ball that lands in fair territory and then rolls, bounces, etc into out of play is and was rulled as a ground rull double, but that dosn't apply to ruth, the ball fell on the other side of the outfield wall. Besides, where did you hear this one from? I've studied Ruth and Aaron for over a decade, and this is the first time I've heard of this one. Are you a Boston fan that's still mad about getting rid of Ruth? Come on, you guys just won the World Series, and Ruth has been dead for more than a few years.

I was burnt out with baseball and all the drug use crap, then the big strike they had. It did nothing more than push me towards football and basketball. All the crap I hear in the news, it just turns me off that much more. Same thing with hockey... I can't watch that anymore either.

Far from a Red Sox Fan. Die Hard Giants, but this has nothing to do with Bonds. There have been many "first hand" reports and accounts from those who attended Yankee games before 1931 (this is when they changed the rule from home runs to ground-rule doubles) that Ruth had a number of those bouncing over the fence. Because of the change, there are no records kept, officially (there was no need to, if they were considered homers at the time), of how many homeruns are now consider GRD's. But there have been accounts from fands during that time who witnessed those as being home runs. It is said that many of Honus Wagner's HR's were GRD's as well.

Now, to Ruth's credit, both the Giants and the Yankees played in the Polo field and that was a monster of a center field (something like 505 ft straight away), which also gave Mays plenty of time for that famous "catch".
