I wanna cry...24-70 dropped... - 02-02-2008, 09:40 AM

From a 4 story parking garage...

I was switching lenses, and had it on the wall of the parking garage,(2 feet wide) a big gust of wind came,(the one time in 2 hours) blew over my light stand, which hit the lens. The lens flew out, hit the sidewalk, glass shatter, it rolled into the street, and a big ass simi-truck flattened it.

I really loved that lens, and it was a razor sharp copy.

The one time I didn't stick it in my hanging bag that I have on my Tripod...

FRACK.

Ouch! Sorry man. I hate stories like this. I once saw someone drop a 70-200 f/2.8 IS and I wanted to cry myself for his loss.

I feel your pain, well, kind of. I dropped my 20d with 70-200 2.8L attached. I was lucky, the lens hood absorbed the shock and I got out of it with no damage. I was sick to my stomach for the remainder of the day though.

Oh man!!! I'm sooooo sorry to hear about your lens! I am so guilty of not keeping my lens in the carry bag. I definitely will be more careful.

Sorry, I had to take some time for myself & just take some images. I'm really bummed, but I have insurance, and they will take care of it via check. I'm actually thinking about getting the 16-35mm II instead. I've always wanted to go as wide as possible, so this might by the sacrafice I needed.

I'm also thinking about picking up a 1DsMark II or a 5D just for wide angle stuff. I'm leaning towards the 1Ds Mark II because of the weather resistance. I would love to get my hands on a 1Ds MarkIII, but my wife is suggesting that we attempt to pay off my car early.
