Angry Is This Legal? - 02-04-2008, 05:25 PM

I know images from the military can be obtained for free on sites for personal stuff but I didnt think ebay and now stock places are allowed to sell photos like the one I took here

http://www.turbophoto.com/Uss-Ronald...5704-37483.php

to be sold for a profit?!?!? I have been so sick of people selling images I shot in the military but I am not allowed to do something like that... BS if you ask me.

I think you are covered by copywrite law...I don't think the law says they can take your image and sell it even if the content is military.

unless you released this image to a news paper as pj, it equates to theft. Ownership is 9/10 of the law. If the took this image without permission, it is illegal, see an attorney.

Were you an acting photographer in the military when you took that shot? i mean was that your position? If so, I could see the military allowing others to use the photos but not to sell them on a stock photo agency.

I would contact a lawyer... expensive i know but it just depends on how much this angers you. You could possibly seek monies based on how many images have been sold previously.

What I have to say is along what Abel said. If you were taking photos for the military, then you do not own the copyright to any of those images, that branch of the military does. But if you were not shooting the images for the military, then you do own the copyright to the images, but I'd recommend you seek legal counsel aka a lawyer if you wish to take action, but it may not be worth it. If the images are of military property, then any sale I would assume must be cleared by the military due to the sensitivity of certin components.

I would be even more irritated that they didn't give you credit.
