Well, I know I'm on the extreme end of things, but I have done something to TOTALLY ELIMINATE all gasoline headaches, something that I know I'm going to take flak for, but I have never learned how to drive, so, I don't own a car, don't drive, so, no pain at the pump.

nothing really... just keeping an eye out for those stations that have lower prices than the others..
Saving $1.50 or so per tank fillup isnt much as a one time thing but take that and multiply it times 3-4 times a month and then times 12 months a year... etc.
Our gas is like $3.19 right now

I wish it was $3.19... I just filled up using regular for $3.89 gallon... and I'm supposed to use premium since I have a supercharger.... I've been keeping my foot WAY off the gas petal.

Oh its so bad to put lower octane in an engine that demands more, but the regular in fresno is still around $3.55/gal.
I made my gas-saving choice over 3 years ago when I bought my quaint little 2.0L tiburon and didn't put on much in the way of engine mods. ~31mpg on my highway trips, good enough for me.

with mixed driving and not being stuck in traffic, I get about 250~280 miles per tank or about 18mpg.
In stop and go traffic, I get about 190~210 miles per tank or about 12 mpg. I have a 15.4 gallon tank and I normally put in 14.85~15.1 gallons at a time.

There is a gas station about 4 minutes away that has Supreme for 4.29.... Regular for 4.00.. Let's just say, I don't go there unless I absolutely have to.

I get 12 mpg. With the inspiration of this thread, I'm going to tape a couple of sticks of dynamite to my gas tank. That should cut down on my fuel consumption.

I have to use Super in my Camry. If I don't it knocks and pings (ouch!)
I try to fill up at Costco where the gas is typically about $.20 lower than your average station. Still, it sets me back about $60 to fill it up.
I have been using the cruise control to work and back (54 miles each way) and trying to keep my foot out of it. I get about 23 miles to the gallon average per tank.
Now when the summer gets here, and I have to bring my boat to the gas station with my new F-150......... Talk about ouch!. Even using regular the truck has a 30 gallon tank, and the boat has a 37 gallon tank.
But once you get out there on the lake, you forget all about that stuff.

Hey, just curious, how many people that have responed so far, and any future posters have seriously considered using mass transit for their daily commute to and from work? I know many if not most of you have 2 cars, one for you, and the other for the significant other, and if you have kids, it's understandable to still use one, but for the other person who isn't taking the little ones to and from school, various activities, etc., have you thought about using mass transit to save money on gas? Or how about buying a bike. In most cities, it's possible, just takes longer to get there.

I haven't considered mass transit, but do carpool occasionally with co workers that live near me. My fight to save gas will be to get rid of my expedition, and replace it with a Tahoe hybrid next year.

I wish I could use mass transit to get around down here in the land of LA. At one time you could or if you are really lucky and live and work at just the right places it can work.
I was in San Francisco a few years ago and for three days I didn't have to use my car, I only had to walk a few hundred yards to go from one transport to another. I wish all towns were like that.

My RSX-S gets about 350 - 390 per tank depending how fast I'm going on the highway. Definitely a good buy for me.

Unfortunately, Mass Transit is not an option for me.
I leave the house at 4:30 and get to work at 5:30. It's a 54 mile commute each way. There are not any co-workers that live near me. BART doesn't go all the way to Santa Clara, nor does it run at that hour of the morning when I need to leave. In order for me to take the ACE train, I would have to drive half way here anyway, and it doesn't run at that hour either.
Then when it gets to the South Bay, you have to transfer to another shuttle......
You get the picture. Not only would it make my 15 hour day into a 17 hour day, it's really not feasible anyway.
