Talking Now For My Next Trick...WALKING! - 06-22-2008, 05:30 PM

Went out for a few hours last night at Lake Yosemite (no not Yosemite NP). Had my camera...as usual...so I asked my wife to take a 'snapshot' of me standing. I've been 'walking' at home for about two months, but I finally got a picture. I haven't walked in almost 2 years, it was a nice change! Now I need to lose 30-40 lbs...

Thanks! I posted this on another forum. For those not familiar with my 'issues'...

The Reader's Digest version:

Around 2004 I started having problems with my joints. The docs (Stanford University) thought it was Lyme. My shoulders improved, but my knees went south...fast. Got a right knee replacement in 2005. Had complications due to a low immune system...several infections. Had the joint removed (no hardware) in October 2006. Two days later I got a stroke. That's why I have trouble communicating at times (speaking/typing). Doctor's thought it would not be a good idea to try again...I agreed, so in 2008 I had my left knee straightened because it had fused at 90 degrees...permanently fused straight as the right leg. When I'm healed I should be able to walk again, but I can't bend either legs anymore. I'll walk like a Penguin!

Hope this all makes sense...remember that stroke thing when I comment....

Good Effort!!! ...as Jack McCoy once said to me. No matter how hard things seem dont ever forget why you do the things you do. Because one day things will come good. I think you are amazing to do what you are. A testament to human will and perseverance of the highest order.

Actually I was thinking before that "hikin mike" is one of the friendliest and smartest people Ive ever met on a forum. I think you post some great responses.

Perhaps the day will come when people will be marketing "stroke therapy" for people who cant make sense or friends on forums?!!! :)

dont stop hiking mike!
