Needs, Lens Lust and the future...

As you all know, my 24-70mm lens bit the dust. I've been considering buying a replacement for it, but, I'm not sure I want to.

We all know that Photokina is coming up at the end of September. The 24-70mm is getting a bit "old" in design. The 24-105 F4L is not as fast, so it's really not a replacement. Canon has the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM lens which is similar to the 24-70, but made for the Rebel.

I have the 16-35mm lens, which covers the 24-35mm range and I have the 50mm lens, and I have the 70-200mm which covers the 70mm range.

errr thanks guys I think I just talked myself out of buying the 24-70mm

I'll post this, just for the heck of letting you all into my head.



I really miss the 24-70mm but I think I'll wait till October just in case Canon has a replacement for the 24-70.

Hey Scott, have you considered looking on ebay for a replacement lens? It may not be a brand new lens that you want, but they do have lenses in pretty good condition. Just the other day I bought a Nikon 28-105mm Macro Zoom off ebay. I can't wait until it gets here!

Yes I have been looking at Ebay and FM and several other web sites, but I'm just a bit trigger shy at the moment. I have a 50/50 theory that the 24-70 lens is going to have a replacement at the Photokina show. If so, I would have buyers remorse if I picked up a 24-70 right now.

IF there is a replacement, I would expect to see a few 24-70's dumped on ebay for cheap while everyone upgrades to the new stuff, so I'll grab the lens then. However, if testing from the big guys show the replacement to be a better, lens, then I'll spring for that instead.

If there is not a replacement for the 24-70 lens, I still would expect it to be cheaper during the holiday season.
