Well Hurricane Ike was a doozie...

I live on the NW side of Houston and I spent 2 days before the storm boarding up windows and battin' down the hatches in preparation for the hurricane.

We got hit hard here in Houston but Galveston Island which is about 60 miles south of me got hit VERY hard. We were without power for about 3 days, phones and internet came back about 3 days later. Some areas of Houston are being told that theyll have power sometime in mid October... can you imagine being without power for 4 weeks! crazy... and thats not rural areas, thats heavily populated higher income neighborhoods etc.

we had a ton of debris from our trees but luckily nothing landed on the house or the detached garage. i spent like 2 days after the storm cutting down broken limbs and getting them small enough to drag to the curb. We were out of work for a few days as well since our building was without power for about 5 days after the storm.

after this storm i am SO gonna buy a generator because man its rough doing without power for even a day much less much more.

anyways... i thought id chime back in and explain the reason for my absence here on CPF...

I got lucky too...No house damage just a yard and roof full of tree limbs...The power was back on in six days and I didn't lose water or gas this time...Here are a few pictures of the neighborhood and my house the day after...Ben

That definately sucks Abel. Ever consider moving to Central CA? All we have to worry about is the heat, smog, and the big one.

Glad to know you and your wife made it thru the hurricane. My husband sent two of his people to the Gulf coast a day or two after Ike hit. One of them went to Galveston Island. The pics she got were amazing!
