Paul C Buff forums... Gone!

Apparently Paul C. Buff can dish out criticism, but he can't take it.



We regret that the Paul C. Buff, Inc. Customer Forum has been
permanently closed. We appreciate the many enthusiastic members and
posts to this forum. Unfortunately the time involved in maintaining
this forum and the increasing presence of spammers and non-
constructive, impolite and otherwise negative posts have made it no
longer practical for us to continue this service to our customers.

Now people will be flooding his customer service lines with questions, instead of being able to search his forum.
He didn't even leave it there for a reference.
He took the whole thing down.

For those of you unsure of what I speak, he makes studio lighting.
Alien Bees and White Lightning strobes.
Supposedly coming out with a new product called "Einstein" later this year?

Abel was kidding about having a separate Alien Bee Forum.
The Alienbeeforum.com name has not been taken.
Then again, Abel can become the forum domain King of Texas.

Those of you who frequent FM may know what led up to this. Last I heard they were putting the forum back up in a read only format.

can u give us some insight on the backstory...

a read only forum... now how does that work? i guess all of the existing info would be read only with no new posts/threads being able to be created.

Basically, there were a few bad apples that ruined it for everyone.

Some people were complaining about the delays in new products, and other trivial issues.
Like the fact that Paul had put Einstein on the back burner to work on something else.

Too much hassle for him to monitor the forum as well as work on the lighting.

So he killed the forums.

forums are a lot of work... and you cant make everyone happy thats for sure...

Thats basically the story. Some people should just not be out there like that. Not many companies as large as "AB" have the actual owner "out there" for general public to deal with. Some people take there personal opinions to far in bashing a company. I'm sure he has better things to deal with then the random punks on forums bashing his product that many more people are happy to own/use.

true... ive heard some issues he's had in the past... blowing up on people on public non-AB forums etc.

as the owner of a company... thats not smart. no matter which way you slice it.

Yeah, it's currently back, as a read only forum archive.

At least folks can look up old info.
I guess any new questions will have to be directed towards the customer service lines.

I mean it only makes sense. If everyone here started bashing CPF you think Able would would to spend his time any money keeping it going? Its different being this is just a forum thats not "supporting" a company. You have to remember a happy customer tells a friend an upset customer tells the world. I'm sure there are far more satisfied customers out there but they are all busy actually working. The few unhappy (maybe is there shooting skills) have nothing better to do then go on the site and bash the company.

I don't agree that he should "go off" on people on public forums but the few things I seen were him basically supplying facts about his product (maybe in an aggressive way) to prove the complaints wrong.

If people were to bash me and CPF then i just gladly show them the door and ban their account. :)

Ive had so many run ins like that over the past 4+ years and if people hate the place enough... why bother sticking around right. hehe.
