Well when you are a flatlander, anytime the ground shakes is an eye opener!

Beeeeeech!
I just hold my cup a few inches higher so I don't spill it. I don't care until it goes over 5.5

it was rocking and rolling at my house. but didn't make the kids get up from watching TV. My old creeky house always makes earthquakes sound worse than they really are. :)

I remember the Loma Prieta quake.
I was sitting on the couch at a friends house. I thought their daughter was shaking the couch behind me.
Then the World Series blacked out, and the fish tank started to have waves.

That's the upper deck of the Cypress Structure, sitting on top of the lower deck.

You can see the pile of brick on the ground, that fell off the building.

I understand the driver of this truck had to change their shorts.
And then quit their job.

These are all scans of almost 20 year old photos. The Loma Prieta Quake was October 17th, 1989 at 5:04pm. The day they didn't yell "Play Ball".
There were amazingly few people killed during what is usually a busy rush hour.
They say that the fact that it was a "Bay Bridge World Series" (Oakland A's vs. San Francisco Giants), that a lot of people were already home to watch the game.

Wifey was on the Bridge coming home and I figured knowing her that she somehow would have gone on the Cypress ( ^ pic above) for whatever reason so I was looking for a green honda in that mess.
She did make it back at ~1am with me sleeping on the floor. She was a bit miffed.

I was on top of an incomplete 200 foot steel structure at the El segundo chevron refinery when we had a little one last year, and let me tell you, I was more than a little nervous.
