Whaaaaaaa! my 70-200 is in the hospital - 09-08-2009, 06:56 PM

dropped my camera case unloading the car...70-200mm took the lens ambulance drive to Canon in Irvine....awaiting news on the surgery. lost at least the lens cap and UV filter. on the good side, no tinkling noises...and it still was focusing and zooming.

lens cap and filter? no biggy. if it still focuses fine and zooming isnt stiff or something, i'd probably have just left it in my bag. hope it works out

couldn't get the shattered uv filter off. plus, I have a job next in 2 weeks that I really need that lens to work exactly as it should for.

I would put dibs on a rental then just in case. I am sure you could always cancel it. Post the prices given by Canon for posterity please and hope all you had was a stuck filter.

Better safe than sorry, I hope everything works out for you.

Please let us know what canon says and does about it.

Good luck with that Windy.
I'm sure it will be minimal if anything at all.
It sounds like the filter took the brunt of it.

Keep us informed, and a rental sounds like a good idea as a "just in case" sort of thing.

Good news only lost one piece of glass besides the UV and the lens cap. Easy fix and will be done on friday. :-)

I'm happy for you that it was minor.

Not only that, you'll have your lens back before you need it.
Just for the sake of peace of mind, you might want to do a focus test with it before you take it to your paying gig. ;)

I'm glad you were able to get it fixed on time!
How much was the glass + install? I would get the old one back too and frame that puppy!
Lenses are like infants, drop them and to the hospital they go just in case.
