Headed to CO next month for vacation... We will be staying around Breckenridge and doing day trips.
Thinking of Rocky Mountain NP, Mount Evans, Garden of the Gods...
Maybe take in a sunrise at Maroon Bells.
Other good sites to see? ;)
Thanks

I used to live in Colorado, some of those day trips you are thinking about will be very long . . . Mountain driving can be very slow.
Since your post has LF in it I assume you are planning on shooting landscapes. All of those locations offer plenty of opportunities. I really enjoyed Garden of the Gods - easy access and many possible compositions. There is a road (I am forgetting the name right now, but there is only one - it will give you some very good views of Pikes Peak) that comes out of the Garden of the Gods into the mountains that has some amazing lookouts.
On another forum - Nature Photographer Network there is what used to be a very active forum of LF shooters, I have not been there in a long time, but check out the Rocky Mountain area of the forum.
How long is your vacation going to be? Do you plan on hiking?

My inlaws live in Pueblo. I still haven't made it to Garden of the Gods. I even went to school in Ft Collins. Royal Gorge was neat, I don't know if I'd go there my first trip.

My main advice beyond my previous post is get to all of these places early! Not only is early light great, but the crowds are much better. When I lived in Colorado many of us shot in the mornings and not in the evenings.
From Breckenridge you are going to be doing a lot of long days for the locations you mentioned.

If you want a nice hike (kinda steep) but might check out Hanging Lake/Spouting Rock Hiking in Colorado - Hanging Lake / Spouting Rock
If you go to RMNP, if you could report back regarding the fencing they are putting in (as part of their elk/vegatation management).. I hear they've put one in one of the larger fields for example.. (Moraine park area for example)

David | they have an area protected with a chain link fence in the moraine park area. it is on the left as you are exiting on bear lake road. we saw several groups of elk cows grazing just north of there closer to highway 36. the fenced in area surrounded a large field of aspen trees. the snow is still very deep up on the trails above 10,000 feet. it is snowshoes or risk postholing every other step.

North & West of Amarillo is a target rich enviornment. Enough for several lifetimes.
Get away from roads & parking lots if possible. The population plummets with each yard beyond pavement.
Go early. Park at Bear Lake in RMNP. Walk up to Bierstad Lake. I just Googled Bierstadt Lake. Take the shuttle bus to Bear Lake. Walk to the lake and back to your car.
Good grief. I had no idea these places had gotten so crowded.
I'll go someplace else.

I'll go someplace else. | if you get up early, it is no problem. even as late as 9am on a weekend is not bad. there are a lot more parking spots at alberta falls trail than the info would make you think. most folks are not going for a real hike anyway, so they bail after 30 minutes and their parking spot opens up. the lower trails can be a zoo, but once you get up in elevation, it thins our considerably and becomes more peaceful.
