New Phone - 06-05-2011, 02:44 PM

Well, after having the SECOND Blackberry 9700 crap out on me (the keys on the right stopped working), I have had enough. AT&T wanted to give me another Blackberry, but I have had enough. Walked out after giving them some cash with an HTC Inspire 4g phone. Steep learning curve on this one, beautiful screen, very sensitive to touches. Eats batteries, basically a 24 hour phone. Very interesting. So disappointed in the Blackberrys.

True. Thanks to my niece for showing me Task Killer, which is great. Love this phone. It has far less the Bluetooth range than the Blackberry though, and eats power, but with Task killer it seems to be better. The screen is huge!

Murph if you are running 2.2 or 2.3 then a task killer is ill advised. Look at Juice Defender its free in the market.

Why is Juice Defender better? Murph you might turn down the brightness on your screen just a little to save some battery. I have one of the original Droids and yes they do eat batteries if you play around with them very much but they are more computer than phone. I do miss certain things about my Blackberry but now that I have the Droid the Blackberry just seems old and clunky to me. If I spend too much time on the internet or using maps I can end up recharging my phone soon after lunch. I never had that problem with my BB but it couldn't do as much either.

I used Watchdog. Do not run Task Killer on the newer phones. They have much better memory management then the 2.1 (Eclair) Android OS did. The TK will make it unstable.

My battery life seems mildly improved with the latest 2.3 OS.

Welcome to Android!

yes - with android 2.2 or higher, they do task management better and task killers actually will mess you up (and wont prolong your battery). Juice Defender (free) does things like only turns on the wifi radio to look for known wifi (or to announce unencrypted wifi) then turns it off. Does the same for the GPS radio, etc. I get between 1.7 and 2 times longer battery life, and it does not get in the way or affect my use of the phone.

Try it- it's free, if you dont get good results, you can just uninstall it.

I will be getting the new HTC Sensation next week when they are released, with that big screen, battery will be an issue, so i will be installing Juice Defender.

BTW - in your settings, you will see that the display is the biggest battery hog, bigger than all your apps combined (and probably doubled). setting the dispay lower will save battery too (i wont, i love the bright displays - so controling other items helps - GPS is a big hog too)

OK phone types answer this --
Gmail (mine) hacked from China.
I took a photo of my grandson with iPhone 4 in a Plano Texas Kroger, around that time period or so, a block from our house.
GPS of that photo tags it as almost central China Quinhua(sp) Province, why it do that? All other photos tag properly. Inquiring mind wants to know.
