Trip to AZ & UT - 06-14-2011, 08:08 PM

Hey Pixtus Folks,
I 'm leaving the 18th for a 2 week seat of the pants trip to the desert.
Going to Bisti Badlands, Monument Valley, Arches, and areas around Page.

Thanks to Jennifer,Keith,Jake, and Todd for getting me excited and out of the house and off the computer to experience these places.

My question is: Can I find places to camp easily? I have a truck tent that sets up in minutes. I really can't afford Hotels and Resorts. I would really welcome any suggestions for places in these areas that are free to dispursed camping.

Thanks Pixtus People,
Guy

I've never had a problem staying in any of those areas. Give this website a try:
U.S. National Park Service - Experience Your America
Look up the parks or monuments you want and there should be a listing for accommodations that should be helpful.

Check out the national park pages for each park. they have general information about camping and rates, and you can always give them a call during a day for more specifics :D enjoy! I want to see Arches next time I'm up there! I was in Zion and Bryce in Southern Utah this past April.

Look for BLM land, as you can pretty much camp anywhere you want on it, for sure.

The main parks like Arches will require reservations for the campsites. You can try and camp on-site inside the park, just be sure to avoid the Rangers. There seem to be many who roam from parking lot to parking lot at night doing just this. heheh

Can you over night at WallMarts or is that for RVs only? Just throwing this out there.

Received this link from an RVer friend in the Panhandle: Other free camping opportunities
Other RV Camping Places including Walmart Camping

Things are bit unsettling out west. Family had to detour around Raton Pass due to fire. An email today cautioned Carlsbad Caverns was closed due to fire. Before driving off it might be best to check out the road situations.

Thanks everyone for the advice.
I hope I can capture shots 1/2 as good as those I see posted here.
The weather looks like it will be cooler than the 105+ that were getting in N. Texas at present. Ha!

You're going to have a great time. I'm totally jealous of your 2 week time frame there!

If you find yourself in Tucson a slight detour to the Mission complex at San Xavier del Bac will not disappoint. The Stations of the Cross were layered with a couple centuries of votive candle soot. A few years ago Bob Villa did a show on it's current stuccoing.

As always best to enquire first.
