Porn in high school yearbook? - 06-17-2011, 10:45 AM

My apologies for the title line. I meant to say "yearbook". As written it might seem to indicate a text book.

Calif. yearbook pic brings child porn warning - CBS News

On another forum here there is a discussion about high school yearbooks, and how some of the schools are starting to allow students to submit their own photos instead of the "old fashioned" head and shoulder photo.

While this story is a bit different, it should be something that yearbook advisors consider when they allow so many people to submit prints for inclusion in a yearbook.

By allowing so many people to submit photos, they will need to look at every shot carefully to make sure there is nothing objectionable, which can sometimes be difficult to see.

In the case of this particular yearbook it was not caught until after the book was published.

That new report is worthless without showing the pic in question.

It looks like - from the article - that it was just a generic 'event' type photo where someone was caught doing something they shouldn't be doing...

Not a 'student submitted' photo...

Most of the yearbooks have yearbook photographers who take the event pictures (students who take Yearbook as a class), and are not "student submitted"... Not a huge difference but there is one!

^ Many are student submitted, but always with staff oversight.

If you search Google images you can find the photo in question (at least an enlarged crop of the offending section of it.) Yep, the young lady (and I use that term loosely) has her dress pulled up showing panties with a male hand in them.... charming. Apparently you had to take the time to look at the bg of the photo as this was not the intended suject matter. Makes you wonder what else has been published over the years.

So in other words not only did they allow a photo in the yearbook that really should not be there, but they SCANNED a copyrighted Dance photo from a professional photographer in order to do it.

So, the school threatens that students that don't return their yearbooks for editing can get charged with child pornography. Does that mean that the school will be charged for distributing child pornography?!

Could have just been a school photographer photo. I'm guessing some kid who got the yearbook scanned it.... Or a parent... but that definitely shouldn't have happened.

It doesn't seem like it was an "Official Dance" photo that was taken on the "Dance Set".
If that was the case, then there would not be people in the background.
It does, however, seem like a general "Candid Photo" that anyone could have taken of their friends and other people were in the background including the boy and girl in question.....

Same question I had when I read that.
