Let's Talk About Your Best Ebay, Craigslist, Etc. Camera/Lens Deal - 06-20-2011, 08:15 AM

I'm sure there are a few of us that find good deals on this forum and in cyber land. Let's talk about your favorite deal you came across. It doesn't have to because of price either.

I have had a few but my best one happens to be my favorite lens and that is a Nikon 300mm ED-IF F4.5 F-Mount MF with a 201TC for $350.00. There is just something about old glass that I like.

My favorite has been been my Nikon 80-200 2.8, AF-S for $750 fairly recently. Maybe not a great buy by cost but I have fallen in love with this lens.

I just picked up another Nikon 300mm f4.5 Ai lens for $159.00 yesterday on Ebay! The lens is in mint condition. Now I have 4 300mms! All from different years. I'm still looking for a Lester Dines 105mm 2.8 Macro lens for my D300s. I bid on one over the weekend and lost.

I have three lenses that I would call great deals...

eBay - Sigma 120-300 2.8 - $1250.00 March 2011
KEH - Sigma 50-500 (Big-Mama) - $200.00 <- was supposed to be broken...it was not...!! just needed to small parts from Sigma for ($75.00)...Feb 2011
PawnShop - D90/Nikon 35 1.8/Tokina 11-16/Sears 28 2.0 MF lens/16GB SD card/Back-Pack....$450.00 Oct 2010

The Nikon stuff is all sold...only did that to make money for my 120-300 ..

My favorite deal (and lens) was a Nikon 50mm f/1.4 for $100.
It's a manual lens, but it's razor sharp, easy to use, and just looks amazing. I love it. It's my favorite of all my lenses. When I feel like my shots just aren't cutting it with other lenses, I go to the 50mm and I'm consistently happy with what I can compose with it. Of course, since I use a cropped sensor camera, it's actually 80mm, but it's still amazing.

BTW, in case you are wondering, I do shoot with a Canon body, so the Nikon lens is attached with a Fotodiox Ai to EOS adapter, $13.

I thought about buying Canon lenses for my Nikon. :) Thanks for sharing your story, Kirk.

I think this is going to turn into a fun thread.

Mrs. Wayne found a Canon A-1 and 50mm/1.8 lens at a garage sale for $17.50.
She is a good wife.

Posted a craiglist ad for someone in my neck of the woods to rent or borrow some Alien Bees before I bought them.

Got a response from this guy named Buster.

He came over (yes, Brad was there!) at 6'5" and easily 300lbs he was a freaking giant...

Came packing a rolling case full of goodies.

He hung out for a couple hours with me then said he had to go... So I started to put stuff away and he said not to worry about it - I could keep them and play.

Over the course of the last three or four years he's become a great friend. Comes over and has coffee and talks camera stuff.

He's loaned me a crapload of gear... and I've helped him out with editing tutorials...lol...

He sold me those AB's for a heck of a deal after letting me borrow them for almost two years.

He'd come get them for something he was doing and then bring them back...lol...said they just took up space in his garage...he sold them cause he was gonna buy a niece of his lights...

That's my best deal so far... ;-)
