I think this new type of camera capture is more like the change from daguerreotype to emulsion based capture.
It definitely changed the business of photography

it's just another tool, it will be interesting to see how it might be used. It will be more interesting to see what software can be developed to do with the raw data. Being able to exactly control the depth of field that you want after the fact would be cool and might give more artistic control that what you get just switching lenses. Not sure how to get a 3D image with one lens set, but maybe they can virtually divide the light point of view up into stereo fields based on the captured data. It seems like it wouldn't have as much separation as human eyes though.

The technology does nothing to change whether someone is a pro or not. Real Pro or Artist work is not based simply on getting stuff in focus, that is like simply a necessary point of entry.

Another article about the technology of Light Field Photography, as related to the Lytro cameras you can pre-purchase now, for delivery in 2012.

I agree. Change has always been present in business, any business. If you don't change, you will get run over by the people who are willing to change.

The business of photography is no different. Photography has been especially susceptible to change because of the quick changes in equipment available to the professional and now to the amateur.

When y'all see fauxtography from facebook soccer momtogs, is the only thing wrong with the image that its not properly in focus? Sure, maybe on a few, but not most, or even a lot. It's about the pose, the composition, the light, the background.

I'm excited about using this for it's infinite focus abilities. Focus-stacking in ONE shot! Leave your tripod at home for the perfect nature stacks. and stacks with moving subjects are now possible! This would also be the perfect product camera, if it could trigger strobes.

My brother just sent me this link.

Light Field Camera Specs, Reviews, & Latest News | Lytro | The Verge

I'm enjoying the explanation of all the functions like "trash" or "about"... It sure is one strange looking camera. However, not much in the way quality for the camera with a 1.2 megapixel equivalent and 8g or 16g storage. Seems like an awesome technology, but this seems more like an interesting toy. I wonder if it will be possible to put this technology into effect on a dslr.

Just saying, I like cavemen and it's not about the camera.
