I am NOT a happy camper right now!!! - 06-25-2011, 10:26 AM

I was on my way out the door to a shoot.
Had too much stuff in my hands. Camera bags (two of them), bag of odds and ends, lunch bag, and my brand new iPad (64 Gig 3G).

Guess which one slipped out of my hands?

Right on the face, and slid across the driveway.
A shattered screen and a bent case.

I bought it with my Mastercard. I figured, "I have price protection, damage protection, etc" with my card. So I called Chase only to find that it's a limit of $250.
For years I've been telling people at sales counters "I don't need that extra warranty, my MasterCard doubles the warranty!"
WRONG!!!!!!!!

Not only is it a limit of $250.00, but it's only for 60 days from the date of purchase.

Learn from my mistakes folks. Check the "benefits" of your credit cards.
They may not be as great as you think.

There is a local company who has repair parts. They are closed on the weekends (more of my luck). But it looks like it's going to set me back about $300.00 to get it fixed with a new case and a new screen.

I'll report back when I find out the total damages. As for a photo of it? I'm too depressed right now.

It looks like today, I'm the bug (referring to my signature).

Sorry to hear about the accident. Hindsight being 20/20, camera bag with a pocket or an Otterbox?

+1

A lot of banks have reduced special coverage benefits for cardholders. I guess that's just the nature of things right now.

Thanks folks.
The funny thing is (okay, not so funny) is that my new camera bag has a spot for a laptop.
But I don't like the shoulder/messenger bag, so this morning right before I left, I switched back to my old backpack.

Oh, and I'll be buying a much more secure case for it once I get it fixed.
Perhaps an otter box.

I bought a waterfield travel case, it arrived today. Very well made. Designed and assembled in San franciso. All American if you car about that kind of thing.

Look at the brightside, you probably saved more than $300 in extended warranty fees over the years.

There is now another iPad carry/tote option a Scottvest.

SCOTTEVEST Travel Clothing Designed to Carry the iPad - Best iPad Accessory - Carry iPad in Style - Cool iPad Case

SCOTTEVEST is the
Ultimate iPad Accessory!
SCOTTEVEST introduces the first jackets and vests with a pocket for the iPad!
Both stylish and smart: a line of jackets and vests with a pocket designed specifically to hold, secure, protect - and hide - the iPad.

I gave Scottvest to two daughters this past Christmas.

I have no connection with this company.

Is dropping something covered under warranty?

Yeah, I'd rather not have had to spend it either way.
