Got stood up again, but.... - 06-30-2011, 01:41 AM

I had a shoot put together for yesterday evening using another Model Mayhem model. Monday she calls and says she has to work and didn't know about it, but she'll be off early enough to get to the shoot at 6pm.

9pm rolls around...No show...

By that time though she had taken the time to call three times, once before the training started, once in her break, and after they had just finished up at 8:45. She even sent me a copy of her schedule so I could see she wasn't flaking out on me.

Needless to say I greatly appreciated the efforts she went through to keep me abreast of what she was doing and why things went the way they did. We rescheduled for next Tuesday evening. Very responsible young lady I thought, and very professional. I'll be sure to post a link to her MM profile once I have my own shots of her in the People section.

Model Mayhem should be called "People with other jobs who wish they were a Model" Mayhem...

I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've had similar things happen.

At least you got calls. Consider that a plus. My rule is one strike and you're out. Harsh, but saves me tons of wasted time.

Scott, I think I agree with your rule... I'm just not sure this would count as 1 strike. I think this would be a half strike.

Even a half strike and your out. Be professional. Do it right or don't do it at all. That is the problem, to many "want to be's" in the photo industry and makes a bad name for all, no matter what part of the business your in. We are in business and should be run like a business.

My reason for 1 strike is I usually have more than myself and the model involved in the shoot. Almost always there is a MUA. About 25% will also include hair or wardrobe stylist. On a rare occasion I will have a location scheduled. Add all that up and you quickly come to the 1 strike rule.

Of course, YMMV.

Oh I do consider a huge plus. Her and I had already sent back and forth two dozen messages working on our ideas plus we had talked on the phone about it so I had a feeling she was wanting to do it. Moreover, she mentioned that she just scheduled her second shoot with another photographer who puts his one strike rule front and center of his website.

I've got a very similar disclaimer on my MM page. Stand me up, try to reschedule, and my reply is going to rhyme with "duck cough".

I deleted her off of my list on MM, deleted her messages, and sent a simple text message "wholly unprofessional." That ends that, short of the curt and to the precise point "duck cough and dye."

Lesson learned.
