Oh EXPLETIVE moment....repair? - 06-30-2011, 04:27 PM

Heading to Tori's 8th grade graduation....D700 with 80-200 lens...with SB-800 attached hanging off my rapid strap....

Rapid strap clip came unclipped from the camera and the SB800 hits the ceramic floor immediately followed by my camera and lens in front of my door with the SB-800 taking the brunt of the impact......

Took the entire hotshoe off my camera (the actual metal part)....and the SB-800 is cracked open entirely on one side....

I need to get stuff fixed...

Anywhere local you guys trust or would you just send it to Nikon and include a bottle of lube with it?

When I caught the sensor swab in the shutter of my D200 Nikon fixed it up great and even cleaned the dirty viewfinder. My vote is for them.*

That sucks... sorry.

No advice to give other than the MFG themselves. I don't trust anyone locally.

Curious, have you had anything like this happen before with the Rapid? I've heard a few bad things about similar scenarios, which has always scared me away.

What about Professional Camera Repair on Richmond in Houston . I know he is the only one I will trust to clean my cameras and I think Abel has used them before.

I have never had any repairs to my cameras that extensive but I would think it would be worth a call or visit.

No idea on repair shops... sorry.

What part of the clip broke/failed or was it user error? Which clip?

Seems that it is an issue:

I'm gonna hire a lawyer and sue Wayne... ;-) I bought it from him a while back when he had his big 'photography garage sale'. (That's a joke for those with no sense of humor)

It appears they may have changed connectors then. Because mine is just about a month or two old and it looks totally different than that one.

Still sucks that it fell though.
