Casey Verdict? - 07-05-2011, 02:50 PM

Surprised that there havent been rants on here about the Casey Anthony Verdict!

The mother gets away with it, the prosecution didnt do their job. A little girl is dead, was missing for a month before her mother was confronted about it, nobody in the family had any emotion in the search process... and when is the last time that duct tape over the mouth was an "accident"?....

I'm still trying to figure out why dumping a body wasn't included in the charges. Surely that's at least littering...

It is still beyond me why not "reporting your child missing for 31 days" is not "Aggravated Child Abuse"?

Sad that she can have another child now, and has already initiated a lawsuit against the Florida for false detainment, so she will be paid for the last 3 years, plus she can now be paid on the insurance policy for the baby, and then factor in book and movie deals...

She is set for plenty of partying. I hope Kharma does not wait too long...

What? She got away with it? I haven't been keeping up, but I just assumed she would be found guilty. She's getting nothing??

Guilty of 4 counts of providing false information to authorities. Nothing on the big 3 charges.

She's guilty of 4 counts of basically lying to the police. No idea what the sentence for that is.

The four counts she was convicted on are misdemeanors. She has been in jail for 3 years...can you say TIME SERVED!!!! Because that is what the judge is gonna say come Thursday on sentencing....I followed the case a little bit....I think one of the bigger blows to the prosecution was that he medical examiner could NOT say what the cause of death was....that was a big time plus for the defense......obviously......!

I always thought in our legal system we were judged by a jury of 12, but in our media world of 24 hour news people are judged not by the 12 that hear both sides and make an informed decision, but by what the news media tells the public it should believe.
I do hope if I ever am charged with a crime that I will be judged by a jury of 12 of my peers (fellow Americans) and not by the news media.

I started to post the verdict as it was read. Decided against it.

Not Surprised! - 07-05-2011, 05:49 PM

I am not surprised by the verdict. I work with lawyers in civil litigation and have observed juries. I have even testified in court several times. While Nancy Grace and other talking heads had Ms. Anthony convicted, there are some really bothersome facts that the jury could not get past. This does not mean I think Ms. Anthony had nothing to do with her daughter's death, but faith and proof are two different things.

(1) The Medical Examiner could not say how or exactly when the little girl died. This is a big detail that the prosecution could not get around. If you don't know how or when she died, proving murder becomes really hard.

(2) Insufficient physical evidence. Without a murder weapon with prints, DNA or something to connect Ms. Anthony to the actual deed, the jurors would have had to make another large leap of faith, beyond reasonable doubt. Combine that with the medical examiner's testimony and a conviction becomes impossible.

(3) Ms. Anthony may be a really bad mother and a liar, but to convict her of murder, the jurors would have to make large leap of faith that bad character flaws equals murder given the lack of physical evidence and the unknown method of death.

(4) Ms. Anthony's father, George, was evasive on the stand. Even if he was telling the truth, he appeared to be hiding something. He was not a good witness for the prosecution. He did not persuade the jury.

Since the TV show CSI has been broadcast, people assume that you can always prove crimes with forensic science. Reality is rarely as neat and tidy as the TV show, but people have become jaded.

If Ms. Anthony has been in incarerated for three years, she will likely not serve much more time if any for four misdemeanor convictions.

QFT...my coworker and i had the same conversation today and people at the office couldn't believe it. You have to have proof beyond reasonable doubt.

Not sure who it was but a comedian once said you're being judged by 12 of your peers that weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty.
