blog spam - 07-11-2011, 01:02 PM

I keep getting these vague, generic, form-letter replies to my blog. The replies are of the sort "I hope, you will find the correct decision" and "Thanks for the thought, you have sparked a thought from an angle I hadn't considered."

I just delete these and mark as spam, but what is the point of these replies? What are the spammers trying to accomplish by posting these comments? Is it some sort of website ranking (for their own website) or something?

The name they sign with most likely links back to a ad-covered page or mal-ware of some sort. Last time i had a blog I had it setup to hold all comments until approved by me. You could also look into something like disqus.

I am catching all the spam, sorry if that wasn't clear. I'm questioning the motives of the spammers -- what are they trying to accomplish? The comments are unrelated to the blog information, so it must be something else -- most likely in the website they leave in their post.

Sorry, yeah misunderstood.

It's like Amy mentioned, they are just trying to get their junk links out around the internet as much as they can.

You throw enough wild pitches, eventually you'll get one over the plate...that's what their banking on. Someone, somewhere to click one of their links. I'd be willing to bet most of them try to sneak in mal/spyware too if you were to visit their site.
