being a geography major in college, this breaks my heart.

Many U.S. kids are lost on basic geography facts | Facebook | Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

how sad is that? *everyone* should have a basic understanding of how the world works... and how to read a map. geez.

my mom would chalk this up to another 'American bubble' ego.

We don't need a gov.org survey to find this out. Watch Jay Leno do his 'Man on the street,' or whatever it's called. The general public is as stupid as can be. It's amazing the answers they don't know.

"Is the state of Iran east, or west of the Mississippi?"

"Uh....east?????"

Teachers can't teach the way they want now days. Thanks to George Bush and his "no kids left behind" law, teachers just teach so they can pass the Federal test.

I ask a kid where Moscow is, he scratched his head and said "I dunno, maybe in the barn with Pa's cow".

I resent that and agree at the same time for some, but it wasn't the law (it was just the nail in the coffin).

kids couldn't find places on the map long before W was govenor, blame it on schools having to become the answer for everything for everybody.

+1 Working in a middle school and having worked elementary, I see parents who don't care or don't know themselves.

My wife yesterday saw me explaining to my 3 month old the bones in her body while giving her a bath. She made fun of me but at the same time thought it was a great idea. I'll prob start with the different organ funtions next month
