New Braunfels People: Please Be on the Lookout - 07-23-2011, 07:14 PM

My grandmother, Bootsie, has dementia and wandered off this afternoon from her home in New Braunfels. She has been missing for about 5 hours in this heat. We believe she's on foot because she doesn't drive anymore (and her car is still at the house). If you see her, please call the NBPD (830-221-4100).

She is one of those people who "never met a stranger," so we're hoping she is visiting with some new friend in their air-conditioned house. Neighbors, friends and family are going door to door in the neighborhood, but she lives close to Landa Park and to Panther Canyon so we're hoping she didn't wander that way. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and prayers, and please, if you think you see her, let us know.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. They just found her in the canyon and she's with EMS. I don't know what kind of shape she's in but we are thankful that she's been found.

Thank you all! She was out there for a total of about 7 hours and is scratched up from taking a pretty big fall, but the EMTs didn't think shehad any broken bones. She was "stuck" up high in the wooded canyon, on a very steep and rocky slope, so it is a miracle that she is okay. We are all thankful that she is home safely tonight.

That's great to hear, Shelby. Glad it was nothing more than a few scratches!

Thank you so much, Lewis. The parents had a pow-wow today about what comes next... and I know they were going to see if they could find some sort of tracking device that she couldn't just take off once she knew what it was, so I will forward the link to them. My husband has been recommending that we get a tracker for about six months, but I think that the rest of the family thought she didn't need it yet. Of course, that's all changed now.
