As of the time I'm posting this, the image below contains 4 areas of potential tropical storm formation. The Cape Verde season looks to be heating up! EDIT: One hour after I posted it, there were only three left!

We might, might, might have a shot at what looks like is coming off of Verdes now.

So much shear though, going to push everything that gets close back out into the Atlantic. Not much of a chance of anything forming in the Gulf either.

Sheesh.

Until the la nina lets off, we aren't going to get much in the way of rain. And gauging by how strong the last el nino was, we probably aren't going to have much rain until 2013-2014.

Yep, unfortunately. We're going to give the drought of the 50's a run for it's money for the title of the worst in the last 1000 years.

A friend posted this picture last week of Austin's Blues on the Green.

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6130797_n.jpg

Honest to all things Holy that is more green grass than I see in my entire daily commute to and from work, combined.

EDIT: I did a bit more reading of forecasts, and it seems that 93L has about a 1 in 50 chance of forming up, avoiding the trough pushing down off of CONUS while riding the prevailing upper level winds to the west, slamming through the Windwards, possibly shooting the gap, and ending up in the western GOM.

Maybe like 1 in 100.

EDIT UPDATE: As of 5 am CST, we now have ourselves Mr. Franklin, heinous spinner of fish.

As of 6:10 this morning, we've now moved through TD Gert, and INVEST 96L sprung up and died in a matter of hours.

93L keeps on chugging though. It's the little storm engine that could. I'd like to see it hit the GOM, but my gut has a feeling if it makes it past the Windwards and into the GOM that the massive amounts of heat energy are going to make it one big and nasty storm.

That is unless the sheer tears it apart, but I just have a weird hunch about it.

The kind of first name that your child will despise you for to the point they put you in a third-tier nursing home for the torment they were subjected to as children by their peers?

That kind of name?

Most likely, though with *that* kind of name, I'd expect to see a hell of a storm.
