Today makes the 4th day this Summer that the morning low was just 86 degrees at DFW (A couple days I think the low at Love Field was higher) which is a record for the highest low ever set at the reporting weather station. Before this summer that record had only been set ONE TIME EVER! Even in the summer of 1980 they say the morning lows were LOWER than this summer.
SO even if it is a HEAT Island effect of the city, though DFW is a big area surrounded by fields and woods, it portends in my book what Global Warming is doing on a smaller scale elsewhere on the planet.

CHRIS the LOW was 86 the high was 104 yesterday -51st day of 100+ this summer, we had 40 in a row which is second after 1980! The record number of 100 + days is 69 back in 1980 but the morning lows were lower and the avg temp this summer is averaging about .5 degrees higher than 1980 avg daily temp (high + low/2 not hourly /24-not sure that that statistic is). Highest this summer has been something like 111 while in 1980 it was 113 for a couple days. I think since July 1st the low has been in the upper 70's one day and that was because of rain.

We are in the 5X days here in Austin. Prob going to tie a record of number of 100+ days that was set back in 1926. To me, it's always been this hot. We are just used to A/C and being cool all the time. Think about how it was back when there was no A/C.

There weren't that many populous cities in the west before air conditioning. I don't remember what size they were using as a threshold, but LA was the first in 1920. Lots of people just didn't want to live where it was hot. Of course, they were having this interview outside the West Alabama Ice House.

Global warming has nothing to do with it; it's all about border security. It's those Mexicans sneaking across the border. This time it's La Nina, and they're having a hell of a time trying to get her rounded up and back on her side of the fence.

Oh it turns out todays low was 85 (still a record high low) so just 3 days of lows of 86 or was yesterday 86, it's too hot to think.
You can go to the US census and get state populations for every ten years and probably the larger city pops too.
Dallasites up till the late 1950's quite often had "swamp" coolers (evaporative coolers) unless they were well off and then they had AC units but with the higher humidity around now I don't think swamp coolers would work that well some days. (you can still see this type of coolers in the Arizona desert towns-a lot cheaper to use than AC units).

And a little over six months ago, we had record lows, snow/ice, (think Super Bowl), and rolling blackouts!
I'd rather have the heat, than the cold, any day! February 2011 will be remembered for the extraordinarily cold weather that began the month. For Dallas/Fort Worth, there were several events that had not occurred in many years:
record low temperature of 15°F on February 10 - first record low temperature since December 4, 2006
100 hours below freezing - longest streak since January 1997 (107 hours)
high temperature of 20°F on February 2 - lowest high temperature since December 22, 1990 (16°F)
5 consecutive mornings in the teens - first time since December 1989

You are kidding about global warming, right?
Cold is significantly easier to deal with than heat. If it weren't, NY NY, etc. Would be wilderness areas. Why do you think Bret Favre played for the Packers, Jets and Vikings?

You would never make the statement about cold being easier to deal with than hot. : ) I am the crankiest cold person you ever want to be around...mainly because I am almost always cold!! I can't say I'm a big fan of this extreme heat...because I get migraines from being in the heat too long, but the cold....lordie... lordie....me and it don't get along!!

| You can simply add some more clothing to combat the cold. In the heat however, you can only take off so much before, well... | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
