PSA: There is now a Camellia Grill in the French Quarter at Toulouse and Chartres Streets, it as the original at S. Carrolton and State Streets, has awesome food. Counter service only.

If you know any locals check if the River Front trolley runs from the Quarter to the convention center. That may make staying in the Quarter an economical alternative.

The online booking sites occasionally offer ridiculously low rates in the Vieux Carré. A daughter recently got rooms at the Hotel St Marie (Toulouse at Bourbon) for $53 a night, however, hotel parking was $25 a day, in and out privileges. As usual your mileage may vary. Also noticed googling stuff in New Orleans NOLA seemed to work as well as the full name.

Thanks for the tips Lewis. I've never been to New Orleans. Gonna have to check out some other hotels.

Tom, where will you and your wife be staying?

Oh wow, so you know the city well. Any ideas for less expensive hotels around the convention site? I don't mind driving in everyday.

Nothing cheap near the convention center. That is pretty much right next door to the French Quarter in the Central Business District. Nothing is going to be cheap around there. And if you got a cheaper hotel or motel in Kenner or Metarie, you'd have drive plus pretty expensive parking.

Haha, not quite. I studied broadcast journalism and communications in college. Most of that is out of me, but if I spend time with my family that never left, I will pick up some of it.

Throwing this out as an alternative. a hotel room or B&B in Algiers and ride the ferry over to Canal St and the convention center. No personal experience with NOLA doing this.

Worked for us going to Santa Fe during Governor's Market Days. Rooms were super pricey and scarce. Stayed at a B&B in Chimayo $100 a night leaving a 25 mile drive into the city.

Appreciate the ideas, but I wouldn't feel safe riding a ferry and walking who knows how far to the convention center by myself, especially at night when some of the classes would get out.

The DWF (Digital Wedding Forum) convention overlaps ImagingUSA in New Orleans, you can hit both conventions in one trip.
