Angry What AT&T Really Means - 08-29-2011, 10:20 AM

Some companies just do not care about professionalism. AT&T came by a few weeks ago to tell us that they would be installing U-Verse in our area, and didn't give us an estimated finish date. What they meant to say was. We will come into your back yard, without you knowing. We will dig a 7 foot hole, and throw the rocks and dirt everywhere. I let my dogs out to go potty, unless I leash them and go out there. We are going to bring a jack-hammer into your back yard at 8am, and use it for the next 3 hours. We are going to hook a hose up to your spout, and use your water, that you are paying for, and let it run for hours...and not tell you. With all of this....I use Charter, not AT&T....and have to put up with this BS.

P.S. AT&T....YOU SUCK!!!

They are allowed 5' easement on both sides of the house but I don't think they have legal access to your water.

Speaking of jackhammers, if they had a fiscal rear end one could not drive a needle up it with one.

They do not have legal access to your water.

And I believe they are allowed to start as early as 8am by law. Roofers have the same requirement.

Well...it's just really annoying. Especially, since I am taking care of kids in my home...and there are random people wandering in and out of my backyard. I would've just like to have had some courtesy notice...especially with sleeping babies in the house.

Wait, what? Where is that written into law at? I'll be damned if they are going to be digging up 5' from my house.

Speaking of that, Center Point sent out letters recently stating they'd be doing work for 3 months in my neighbor hood. I hope they're finally burying all the power lines!!!

Technically, they have a utility easement wherever it says on the survey. It varies by property.

Our yard has an easement across the back and AT&T crews have been known to hop the wall without notice. I have a police K9. Free squeaky toys!

Surveys usually show utility easements. I don't believe 5' away from a house is a standard in my area.

Most Utility easments are 5' to 10'' off the back fence...only...but they do have a right to come into the yard...you signed the paperwork at closing for your house...that's one of the 100 docs that you sign...

About the water...what you do is you send an invoice back to AT&T for the usage above and beyond what you normally pay...take your water bill from the last 4 months and average it out...then take the bill from the month they were there...and bill AT&T for any overage's that you have...

Unfortunately...there is not much you can do...but maybe the bill back may help...you just have to be persistant...and try to take a picture of there guys using it...that would help...

They were about 3 ft from the back fence. Good idea about billing them :)

I'm sorry, it's 5 ' either side of the dividing line however that could vary by city.
My x neighbor i'n , one of the cable companies dug a trench from the street to the side of their house about a foot deep and left it open all weekend. A kid living next to them broke his leg and his parents sued my neighbor for damages.

Ouch, that sucks. I hope the kid is okay...and that the right people take the fall (no pun intended) for the accident.

You are within your rights to refuse them access to your yard. I did it at my last house. I came home from work to find that they had removed a 8' section of my fence, then the cut my main power line by accident. I kicked them out. A supervisor came by, I would not let him in the yard. He threatened to call the police, I said "go ahead". He did, they came, listened to the stories, and then told the cable crew that they could not force me to give them access. They cut through the nieghbors yard instead. Next time tell them no!
