I think this goes in hand with peoples talking about digital being the problem child.

Taking a picture correct in the camera then just making it better post stands out a lot more than taking a snap shot in camera then trying to polish it in post.

I firmly believe that two different people with the same post knowledge taking the same picture but one just using a snapshot and one getting it correct in camera. I firmly believe that the one who take it correct in camera will always have a better image with or without post.

a curious note: in the article he shows "RAW" files. Impossible. Some software rendered the RAW into a viewable format, and there are many was to render a RAW, some good, some not-so-good. Some do it well enough to just save-as, but it still isn't the RAW file you are seeing. Just because you don't 'do' anything to your RAW file and then save it, you haven't actually seen your RAW file: you saw what your software rendered. A test is to open the same RAW file in separate editors and see the differences in the way each renders it.

A technical nitpik, granted.

Digital processing is an expansion of the medium, not a form of amateur charlatanism.

Very true, although I would have loved to hear him say "bitches".

This is most definitely a man who said bitches from time to time.

He doesn't always drink beer, but when he does, it is a Dos Equis.

Raw files are "digital negatives" they require post production work. Real photographers know this. Who cares what other people think, they cant reproduce our images!!! :)

This sounds like an old discussion to me. Cameras and lenses don't 'see' or capture light the way the human eye does, so retouching or editing the image is a necessity.
Adams would take a week to make just one print of 'Moonrise over Hernandez'. The notes showing where to do what to the print looked like a modern day image of the circuitry in a semiconductor.

Digital Photo has changed perceptions and cheat, lie, steal, is the new norm.
