Just to remind everyone what internet connections are like just 2 miles out of a town with DSL. This is not acceptable. I want to say I heard the govt. spent 6 billion on improving the rural infrastructure last year. Made no difference to me.

I live 6 miles from a very small town. I'm a lot further than that from the CO but I have decent DSL speed considering. It's expensive though.

Yeah, I pay $42/month, after I spent $900 a few years ago for a 55' tower to get the wifi from about a mile away. It would almost be worth it to negotiate a faster connection by having someone in town get a dryline for DSL and pointing my antenna at their house instead of the dreadful company I'm with now.

I hear you. I got a flier for a new wireless company for this area and their up/down speeds were horrible compared to what I have now (which is horrible by some standards). Their cost for the equivalent speed was about the same.

We use wireless for some of our remote sites at work. Data stuff. I was surprised at how often they go down and not surprised that our up/down speeds tanked once they established themselves with rural customers.
