Photographer position? Where are the priorities here?

• 4 years of sales and customer service experience
• Previous photography experience preferred, but not required

At least they listed it in the Sales section.

Well, they DO have to be able to sell the crap they shoot, right? ;-)

Some photographers HAVE to have salesman skillz to sell some of the photos they produce.

I wonder how old that company is. It's been around since I was a kid.

I remember getting a coupon for a free 8x10 when I was a poor newlywed. I went in, got my picure took, and they tried to sell me a bunch of crap. I got my free 8x10 and that's it.
I got my money's worth!

I looked at the website because I'd never heard of them; says they've been open since 1932.

I applied to one of these places today
I don't know anything about portrait photography, or studio photography.
I'm not doing anything right now, and Christmas is coming up so I could use the extra $$.
This is a part-time/holiday job and they'll train me. I look at it as a chance to learn something about portraits before I start school in Jan.

I know what to expect (I think) with the holidays coming -- lots of kids portraits and family Christmas card pictures. Anything else?

This could be fun -- its nice lookin' for a job because I WANT one, not because I NEED one.

Melany,

Way back in '88 I worked at a Sears portrait studio and yes, from about now until a week or so before Christmas on evenings and weekends it was a full waiting room of crying/screaming kids with 3 photographers working non-stop until closing doing kids & families for Christmas pictures. It can be brutal.

It does give you good experience working with lots of different people getting good expressions for portraits and working on posing. Many people look down on these types of photographers, but if you're interested in photography in the future, you will pick up some valuable experience.

Thanks!
THAT (and some extra cash) is my goal! I start school in the Spring semester, headed for a BSA in photography.

I'm excited about learning something about portraits - something I've NEVER done.

The interview is in an hour.
