Has anyone on here ever bought from Digital Hunter - 10-01-2011, 05:44 PM

I have been looking around for a new lens and came across an online store called Digital Hunter who has some pretty good prices. I've never delt with this place before and was curious if anyone on here has or has heard of them. Usually I deal with a store I know and probably will this time unless some has had good experiance with these people.

The Digital Hunter - thedigitalhunter.com - Reviews, Ratings and Prices at ResellerRatings

only 96 reviews... i dont think i would take the chance.

i'd suggest B&h, adorama, amazon or a local retailer.

Read very carefully.....

Canon 1D Mark IV from Digital Hunter is ONLY $4,299 for the body only

Says it includes an AC Adapter, USB Cable, Video Cable, EOS Digital Solutions Software CD-ROM & Instruction Manual on CD-ROM

Once you add a battery @ $249 & a charger @ $299 for the total $4,847

BUT WAIT.... if you agree to a SURVEY, they'll give you a 10% discount. But you cannot see the survey until after you have checked out

Sounds fishy to me

The Digital Hunter - a BAD experience - 10-21-2011, 10:58 PM

I ordered a Panasonic TM900 Camcorder for $749 from Digital Hunter & was talked into buying a 8GB memory card for $199 with other accessories. I was told that the battery would be upgraded for an additional $99. He was a very slick salesman, named Steve. He said that it was a special type of memory card. I thought that was a ridiculous price for a memory card, but made the mistake of ordering it anyway. 75 minutes later I decided that I didn't want the memory card & I called back to cancel the memory card. I told the order was a package so a manager would call me back. The manager didn't call me so 2 days later I called them again. I was told the order was already mailed, call when I received the order & they would give me a RMA# so I could return the memory card & receive the $199 credit.

The website states that if you buy any camcorder or camera you get 4 additional items. I didn't receive any of them.

Beware of the “60 day return policy–your satisfaction is our guarantee” stated on the website. In the email I received after placing my order there was different information that contradicted this policy.

When my order arrived I called to return the memory card & Ben told me that it was not $199-it was only $89 but on the website it's$349. He also said I could NOT just return the memory card. I told them I didn't receive the upgraded battery, but Ben said that the VW-VBN130 was the upgrade & would last 5 hours. I told them that the VW-VBN130 is listed on the box as the supplied battery & the manual states the recording time is 1 hour 35 min. Ben said that I was wrong, but when the battery was charged it gave me 1 hour & 35 min.

I suggested returning ALL of the accessories that Steve had talked me into adding & just keep the camcorder. On the website the camcorder was $749 when I ordered it, a week later it was $719 & 3 weeks later it was listed $689. Ben said the camera was $899. He said the $749 model is an import and everything is in Japanese. In order to find this information, you have to click on the specifications tab & click on the word imported. Steve, the salesperson never disclosed this information when I told him I wanted the $749 camcorder.

I decided to return the entire order (camera & accessories)& was told there would be a 15% restocking fee. I made the mistake of saying that I wouldn't be filling out a favorable survey. Ben yelled & said that the restocking fee had just increased to 40%! I was shocked & he said "if I was going to give them a bad survey I was going to pay for it." I told him that this was a scam. He said according to law he could charge up to 50% to restock. He continued to raise his voice & interrupt me when I tried to talk.

After 7 phone calls & spending 2 hours dealing with Ben I was finally told that I could return the memory card & the $199 would be refunded to my account, but there was a catch. I had to fill out the surveys with 5 star ratings. After he saw that I had done that he would send me the RMA# & credit my account when the memory card was returned. I was BRIBED to give them a 5 star rating! Had other customers been "strong armed" into rating this company high? I fill out the 5 stars ratings to get my credit & contacted the Better Business Bureau. The BBB also had trouble getting a response from this company. Finally, I did end up with a $199 credit, but still had accessories that I would not use, & had spent an extra $250. I wasn't totally happy with the outcome, but at least I had recovered a portion of the money.

After I had the credit, I resubmitted the surveys to reflect my experiences so others could make informed decisions. Ben saw that I'd changed my surveys & called asked why I had changed them. I told him I still had items that I didn't want. After a long discussion he agreed to send me a RMA# so that I could return the unwanted items & receive a $250 credit to cover the rest of my expenses. I sent the items back & have verification that they arrived on Aug. 15. After 2 weeks I contacted Ben asking where my credit was. Here replied AS AGREED” YOU ARE A CHARACTER. JUST LIKE YOU WENT BACK ON YOU WORD, WHEN WE DID ACCOMMODATE YOUR REQUESTS, SO YOUR REFUND WILL POST IN THE APPROPRIATE TIME FRAME WHICH IS 45-60 BUSINESS DAYS."

It's past 60 days. I emailed Ben to find out about my credit, but as usual he hasn't replied.

Say these words, "My attorney has instructed me to only speak with your legal department. What is their contact information?"

No attorney would tell a client to ask for the company's legal dept., that's their job, so I wouldn't try to pass that off.

As for the Mk IV, the battery, as well as certain other items, is included from Canon, as part of the camera. When anyone starts parting them out, it should be obvious they are scammers.
