Nest Learning Thermostat - 10-25-2011, 11:42 AM

This is so cool what this thermostat can do.... yes programmable thermostats can do almost the same thing, but this makes it easy and cooler...

Plus the ability for me to control my AC/Heater from a iphone or computer makes it worth while for me. Suppose to cost $249 and you can pick it up at places like Best Buy. The deals contain some of the cool features, so read on.

That's pretty cool. I love how the video makes it look like you can just unplug your old thermostat and plug the new one in, LOL. My thermostat is the kind you program manually. But I do like that it is somewhat learning. If I tell it to be at 74 at 5:30PM it knows when to kick on to make that happen. Now that it's getting colder outside it kicks on later in the day. When it gets hotter it will kick on earlier. I must say that it does save quite a bit on the electric bill.

Did you check BestBuy? The stores in Houston sell them.

I thought they were all sold out..... I was too lazy to go there, so I relied on the "Check store stock" on BB website....

Cool, that is indeed is a good product. I run a A/C and Plumbing co. in SA and we are a certified installer for this stat. If you have any problems shoot me a pm and I'll try to help. It's fairly easy to install.

exactly. The issue with many high-tech energy saving devices is the return on investment is longer than the life expectancy of the device, meaning you will never break even compared to alternative solutions, like simpler programables in the $20-$50 range. Sure you can break even if you have a manual dumb, non-programable. But you can break even faster with a $50 solution.

Now, the solution is to ignore the ROI and just say you like it. Works for me.

I agree. We have a very nice programmable stat and it does just about everything this one does - including link to my smart phone - android not iCrap and it came with the system. I asked about the replacement cost of the stat and was told it was about 150.00.

I can't tell you how many times I have NOT had to use the app. That is nothing more than frill. Once you figure your schedule out, program it once, (very easy to do) it is perfect. Definitely wouldn't spend another 250.00 to have it decide for me.
