Site that would allow downloads? - 11-03-2011, 04:28 PM

I'm volunteering at a fundraiser for a local charity, and will be taking Santa Photos.

Last year the volunteer staff wrote down the persons contact info (email) and I emailed each person a copy of their digital image.

The problem? Bad email addresses, email addresses bouncing back due to file sizes... It was a nightmare.

So I need suggestions on a site that would allow me to upload the files - and I can provide the families with a card with the dl info...

I'd like it to be as easy for everyone.

Suggestions?

Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket are a few of the free ones out there.

If you have your own website and access to the server-side of things, Gallery is a nice web-based interface that would allow people to have usernames and passwords. I use it for this exact reason, and its free.

I also think that dropbox could be used in this manner (also free), but you might have to make folders for each family and then share the folders with specific people. I have limited experience with dropbox though, maybe you could make one folder and make the entire thing public?

how big/high quality an image do you want to send them? It may be 'neat' to do it as a facebook page...

I used Phanfare for sharing personal photos with friends/family. Very clean and easy.
I don't use it any more since almost everyone prefers Facebook for sharing photos these days...

zenfolio allows for digital downloads.

It's pretty dang smooth the way it works, includes license info as well, and they could get them printed from the same site if they wanted.

I have a smugmug account that I would be willing to use to make you a gallery if you want. You can upload full res files and they can right click/save any file they wanted or print straight from the site. Just shoot me a PM if this sounds like something you would like to do and we can work out the details.

instaproofs is free and you only pay a percentage if people order prints. I would think you could just upload the images and have file download for free too (because you set the prices)... so if the download was free...you wouldnt pay anything? I havent tried it (the free download i mean, i use instaproofs) but it sounds like it'd work lol

Patrick beat me to it. I am a Smugmug FANatic. It works like Patrick stated. I use them to post our church photos among many others. Password protected galleries, watermarking, right-click protection OR right click downloading are just a few of the features. You also can set pricing for photos (if you purchase the pro-package).
