Angry iPhone updated to iOS 5 = Farked - 11-03-2011, 06:53 PM

So, it turns out, at some point along the way, "Encrypt" was selected on my backup file. I didn't do this. I called Apple, and it turns out it was an auto feature in some update at some point (the lady didn't know when). There's NO master password to bypass this... Uh, WTF? How did that one get by a multi-billion dollar company with many many millions of users? This has seriously pissed me off as I have information on that phone that needs to be accessed. Thankfully, someone let the cat out of the bag about a program called Elcomsoft Phone Password Breaker. I'm using it right now in hopes of it breaking the code. More than 12 hours its been going and no luck yet. It's slapping about 10,000 or so passwords a minute trying to find the one that works.

Anyone else run into this problem?

She is wrong, or everyone who upgraded, including me, would be having the same trouble. Mine didn't change.

Not saying something isn't going on, but it must not be as simple as she says, or everyone would have the problem.

No problem on my phone. Upgraded with no problem. I hope you figure out a work-around.

Maybe, maybe not, Howard.

Without knowing the password, there is no work around, according to the lady I spoke with.

Garrett, have you asked for a replacement? Where did you buy it?

AT&T. Refurb'd. It's not the phone doesn't work. I'd just have to setup it up as a new phone. Which pisses me the fark off because I didn't setup a password of the farking backup file. I suppose I should have read the instructions before hand, to see if a restore was necessary with the update (but none to date had needed a restore for the iOS update).

Hmmm... I wonder if it being a refurb had anything to do with it.

I doubt it since it wasn't a phone setting but an iTunes setting.

Anyway, the one program I needed to recover, I luckily made a copy of most of the info in there, so I'm not out much.

By now, my wife would have been tired of my complaining and bought me a new one. Whatever works.

Eh. I tried. Not paying the retail. Waiting until April when the Wife's early upgrade option becomes available.

That's strange, upgraded my wife's iphone 4 just fine with latest iTune. Wonder if the previous owner backed up with a password and it 'remembered" the setting.
