http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/...-mobile-flash/

Adobe has killed Flash development on mobile devices.

Can't say we didn't see this coming, but all the people who kept clinging on to Flash, might want to re-think things now.

Does this mean people will stop using the fact that ipads and iphones don't recognize flash as an excuse for why they don't buy into the new fad?

I seriously doubt that, Audrey. But it does have to make you chuckle a bit, doesn't it?

Android was supposed to be more "Open" when in fact, it's almost the same as the iOS.

Android supported Flash (even though it never worked well, and only on a very limited amount of the devices available)

So, the two biggest gripes against the iOS, have pretty much evaporated.

Hardly gone. Just because it's not an option doesn't make it suck less. Being tied to iTunes alone is reason enough to hate iOS. Sadly, I havent found a Android phone that I like as much as the iPhone. If I could have the iPhone without iTunes, it'd awesome.

You can have that already. Apple's iCloud is essentially replacing iTunes. You don't even need a computer anymore.

That's going to be happening (has been already)... who's going to develop sites in two formats now? Who's going to develop a site that doesn't work on the large percentage of user's equipment anymore? Desktop Flash is also dead.. it's just going to die a little slower, that's all and there hasn't been an official statement about it.

Adobe wants Flash developers to move to AIR instead... which most will. However, this announcement is going to have a major impact on their development base. Many developers will probably jump ship altogether or will hedge their bets with something else.

This is not a good day to be an Adobe stockholder, I can assure you.

My only main concern is that Adobe is so tied to our livelihoods with Photoshop, that I am worried that the sinking ship may end up costing us dearly when/if it goes down.

If this thread becomes an Android vs iOS or PC vs Mac debate I am banning everyone.

Don't ban everyone. Be fair. Only ban the idiots that disagree with me. Yeah, that'll work.

Still have iTunes on the iPhone. Still have to have iTunes open on the desktop to sync it. I'm not paying for storage in the "cloud" I already have on my desktop.

When HTML5 was first touted about, it was Said to be the Flash killer. Which it may be someday, but it's still far from that point. Itd just be nice if HTML5 did all that flash does and then some. Even if "flash" programming dies, I hardly doubt it's going to bring down Adobe, Inc. as like many other businesses they have more than one avenue of income generating products.

I think you're a bit mistaken on some things:

There is the iTunes(the most profitable, elegant online shopping experience there is - what is wrong with it?) store, not iTunes on the phone.

iTunes as an app on your desktop, is no longer needed to activate phones, or sync anything. You literally don't need to even own a computer anymore. Just buy an iPhone and use it. Everything is in the cloud and it's free forever. You don't need to pay for anything extra to do this.

Wait, when I googled how to upgrade to ios5 for my ipod, it said to plug into a computer and open itunes. Where those instructions wrong? Can I upgrade the operating system without a computer?
