I wouldn't pay $20 for that photo. It's just not interesting no matter who pressed the shutter or photoshopped it.

It's a pretty awesome photo, but I think $4,338,400 is the most I would pay, $4,338,500 is a little much.

If you read some of the comments, he is apparently the official "IT" photographer right now. Apparently he made the #1 of 6 in an edition and printed it huge. Still, I don't get it either.

I looked at it for awhile scratched my head then, went back to the old saying "an idiot and his money are soon parted".
Something that did make me laugh was this, I watch Pawn Stars all the time and any time someone brings in art to pawn the first thing they say is "art is a tough sell in this economy". Obliviously not!

I think the key here is just to get known for selling high-price stuff... which is the hardest part of course.
That said, I am looking for someone with a lot of money to "buy" one my shots (of course I will return the money), so that I can make the news for having sold one my pieces of crap for millions. Then, once I'm established from that... it will be easy sailing, just take a bunch of crap and put it on auction and then watch the cash come rolling in.
Anyone interested, PM me.

LOL...what makes it work 4.3mil...is the fact that he took out the things he did not like...I know half of us do that... :) but we don't get anything but 2cents from everyone...
Now, I am inspired...I need to find a nice person to buy all my art...for a bargin price...I'll sell everything for 500K...
You think I can get that or should I just stick with the 2cents...

"Like the painter, Gursky constructs his composition, removing all small arbitrary details interrupting his clean horizon."
And remember to keep the horizon DEAD CENTER of the shot. This is to baffle new photographers with how the rules mean nothing to a true "artist"
A little about the editing...
"In order to stress the idea of nature, sparse and minimalist, having being straightened out by human hand, Gursky elides the factory in the background."
Here's the actual spot on the river.... hmmmm? At what point does a photo become a Photoshop creation? http://theonlinephotographer.typepad...log_index.html

This is unbelievable, except it happened! Record for any photo sold at auction set in NYC - Yahoo! News
The link has info about the photographer, and reveals that the photo has been digitally corrected near the bottom of the article. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/a...on-record.html

It reminds me of some photos I've taken that I thought were too dull to show anyone.
There are a lot of horizontal lines and flat scenery out here in west Texas.
