Planning a wknd trip to Fredericksberg TX. Need some recomendations - 11-15-2011, 11:12 AM

So my wife and I have decided to take a four day vacation next weekend and decided to stay in the Fredericksburg area. Where are some places I may want to look at staying? Also what places and resturants are a must in the area.

Thanks

In the past have enjoyed Andy's Steak & Seafood Grille. Next time thru we want to try the Airport Diner.

Some good info on Tripadvisor.com

Turkey Hollow is fairly close by ... .::Block Creek Natural Area::. secluded, private, privacy, uncrowded, professionally designed photo blinds and setups, your own private ranch
They have photo blinds set up on the ranch and you can get some awesome photos of birds. It is also wonderful for night photography - very dark with great props (tractors, windmill, lovely old buildings, etc.).

See this thread for some photos...

The Hilltop Cafe is the traditional place to eat around Fredburg. It's north of town a short drive. Been there forever. And there's Hondo's and the Auslander for live music on Main St. in town. And there's a brew pub down by the Auslander for good beer, I forget the name.
Also, if you're going through Johnson City on your way there, stop for lunch at the new brew pub on the square across from the courthouse - Pecan Street Brewing. Great pizza among other things.

For us, the Auslander has atmosphere and good beer, but the menu is limited, if you are looking for German food, and you can be a bit rushed depending on the time of day. But don't get me wrong, it is a fun time and that's why we go back. But if you are looking for a more extensive German menu, which we sometimes are, I suggest that you go to Der Lindenbaum. It can be busy and the wait can be longer, so we have often agreed to eat at a larger table with other people and had a great experience rather than wait for a smaller table.
