My favorite...

"Is there any reason you're speeding on these icy roads?"
"I didn't realize the roads were bad."
"Oh yea? How long did it take you to scrape that little box out on your windshield?"

Nothing about turning into your lane? So many people do not turn into the lane closest to them. Even when the turn lanes are hash painted on the road.

Oh man there is a bad one going south on the tollway exiting NW highway. There are two turning left lanes and the farthest left goes into the far left lane going east on NW hwy. Always one person tries to go into the middle lane and almost causes a wreck with the people staying in their lanes.

I personally think that the left lane should be for travel at speed, and the right lane left for people to enter/exit the road. Think about it. All the speed and direction of travel changes by other cars would take place to only one side of your vehicle. Not someone slowing down to exit in front of you (or stopping because of all the other traffic trying to exit) and the guy behind you pulling to your left to pass. I think this is one where common sense isn't common practice.

That is why there is a middle lane

Assuming it's only two lanes in that direction.

Although, if 290 west at 5pm tried to fit everyone in only one or two lanes and left both outside lanes open people would be backed up outside Harris county.

If the left lane is OPEN for passing like it is supposed to be it wouldn't be an issue.

I-25 in CO was 2 lanes for the majority of it, as is I-80 pretty much the whole way from Chicago to WY. When people treated the left lane as a passing lane it worked very well.

actually this is the recommended practice when there are more than 2 lanes: far right: enter/ exiting only
center(s): thru traffic
far left: passing only

if folks knew how to merge, the for right lane would be somewhat extraneous in the above however.
