going this weekend. Anyone know if a yearly membership is valid for 12 months from the purchase date, or is it for the calendar year?

I think it's from the end of the month you buy it in. I can't quite remember (had them for a couple of years).
Kinda like a car reg.

Buy it this month, and it's good until the end of December 2012.

)&(*& Did anyone know that you can do guided horseback riding (yes, your horse would be following six inches behind the tail of another horse) and there's no additional fee besides park entry (unless additional fees are stated)?! Never knew. May have to go horseback riding some time too :) Haven't done that since I've visited the Rocky Mountain National Park.

Everyone should try and help out. It would be awful to see these state parks close because of lack of money. These places are truly a gem in texas. In times of need texans help other texans out

It is well worth it. By the way, Bastrop state park opened last weekend. They need help especially. The variety of pines that grow there are only found in that region. Luckily the Texas Forest Service has some frozen seeds for restocking the forest. But it will be a few years before the seedlings are ready to be planted.

I'm pretty cheap and I gave. It is a very worthwhile cause and one that I get to enjoy once in awhile.

Thanks for the heads up.
