Yeah, the repeating themes of the skeletons and masks are interesting. Was it common for photo studios to have a skeleton in the closet back then?

I see a lot of 'portraits' and wonder: Just how did this conversation start?
Take just one of the photos on the list - #47: I'd just love to have been there to hear the photographer convincing the young lady "It's perfectly normal - ALL my clients get to use this set."

a few of these really look like pre-photoshop cut n paste. I used to watch my dad do this in the 60s and 70s: x-acto knives, frisket paper, airbrushes and rubber cement...by the time he was thru virtually no one could tell. And the final output (and often several intermediates) was in fact a photograph (print), usually created on a Photostat machine. (for example: the "giant" holding the "little person" in his hand would be quite easy to do.)
The really scary part is that some of what we do today will be looked upon as just as strange some day in the perhaps not-to-distant future. What goes around comes around....
